چکیده

This paper describes the principle and the technical details of a cheap titrimetric sensor for the measurements of total and partial alkalinity and the estimation of bicarbonate and volatile fatty acids concentrations in anaerobic digestion processes. The on-line operation of the sensor connected to a 1 m upflow fixed bed reactor treating raw industrial wine vinasses has been shown to be reliable over a five year period of daily use with one measurement every half hour. In addition, this sensor requires a very low maintenance effort while providing very useful information for the on-line control of the process.

Titrimetric Monitoring Of Anaerobic Digestion: VFA, Alkalinities and More

Volatile fatty acids and bicarbonate measurements are important to assess a digester’s stability and to control it. Titration methods are the most likely cost-effective methods to determine those variables with acceptable accuracy. In this paper, titrimetic methods will be classified and evaluated. Two titrimetric sensors are compared for their potential on-line use. One sensor uses advanced in...

Accurate on-site volatile fatty acids (VFA) measurement in anaerobic digestion – verification of a new titrative method

This paper reports on the development and verification of a new simple, rapid and accurate titration method suitable for on-site measurement of volatile fatty acids (VFA) and carbonate alkalinity in anaerobic reactors. The method takes into account the effects of the phosphate, ammonium, sulfate, and sulfide weak acid subsystems on titration results. The method involves eight pH observations an...

Different Pathways to Integrate Anaerobic Digestion and Thermochemical Processes: Moving Toward the Circular Economy Concept

As one of the most environmentally friendly and cost-effective method, anaerobic digestion (AD) has been widely studied and developed as a conventional technology to degrade biodegradable materials and produce biogas simultaneously. Various substrate sources are used in this process such as organic fraction of municipal solid waste (MSW), waste activated sludge (WAS), animal manures, agro-indus...

Evaluation of the 5 and 8 pH point titration methods for monitoring anaerobic digesters treating solid waste.

Simple titration methods certainly deserve consideration for on-site routine monitoring of volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration and alkalinity during anaerobic digestion (AD), because of their simplicity, speed and cost-effectiveness. In this study, the 5 and 8 pH point titration methods for measuring the VFA concentration and carbonate system alkalinity (H2CO3*-alkalinity) were assessed and...
